This small south-facing garden felt tiny when divided up into a lawn with borders around the edges. By giving the whole area over to planting and unifying the surfaces of the beds and path with a covering of gravel, the garden feels bigger. This sun-baked space cried out for drought-tolerant plants such as lavender, euphorbia, eryngium, irises, sage and thyme; echoes of the Mediterranean brought to a London suburb.
